Sober Mind Fall Day 3
Welcome to Day 3. Today, we are turning our attention to the gut and the powerful role it plays in digestion, nutrient absorption, and communication with the rest of the body. Alcohol can irritate the digestive tract and affect the gut microbiome, so recovery nutrition should be gentle and individualized. Think of your gut like a fall garden. Diversity in the microbiome grows gradually. The healthy gut flora can help with digestion, with the creation of B vitamins and they even help your body to create serotonin. Fiber-rich fall foods such as oats, apples, pears, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, squash, beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, and leafy greens can support bowel regularity and nourish beneficial gut microbes. Increase fiber slowly and pair it with enough fluid so your digestive system has time to adapt. Fermented foods such as yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, or kimchi may also fit, but more is not always better. Choose what feels comfortable for your body. Today, add one fiber-rich fall food, choose a probiotic-rich food if it agrees with you, and notice how your digestion affects your energy, mood, and comfort. This is not about deprivation. It is about learning what helps you feel nourished. TODAY'S ACTION STEP: Add one fiber-rich fall food, include a tolerated fermented food, hydrate, and record digestive comfort. TODAYS REFLECTION QUESTION IS: What foods help my digestion feel calm, comfortable, and supported?
